The Brother James Miller Guild has created the first medal for Blessed James Miller, FSC.
On the front of the medal, Brother James is pictured wearing his habit with a rabat, the two-piece collar resembling the collar of a scholar, evoking the Brothers of the Christian Schools’ educational mission. Worn by Saint John Baptist de La Salle, the rabbat allows the Brothers to look distinct from both laypeople and clergy. At Brother James’ right side is palm frond, symbolizing his martyrdom.
The expression “Live Jesus in our hearts” appears on the back of the medal. Lasallian communities and schools end times of prayer with the words, “Live Jesus in our hearts … Forever!” Brother James prayed these words daily.
The guild has the following tips on how to use the medal as a source of inspiration and prayer aid when seeking Blessed James’ intercession:
— Place the medal on your desk or nightstand. Pray for all indigenous and underserved communities before you begin your day.
— Attach the medal to your toolbox and ask “Brother Fix-it” to lend a hand to all laborers, farmworkers and repairmen as you use your tools.
— Loop a string through the medal’s hole and tie it to your keychain, rosary or zipper of a bag. Pray for all missionaries each time you come across it.
— Wear the medal on a chain as a necklace. Pray for the strength to live out the Church’s social teachings as Brother James did.
— Ask your parish priest to bless the medal while you share the story of Blessed James with him.
