Lasallian Holiness
Saint John Baptist de La Salle, the patron saint of teachers, founded the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools (De La Salle Christian Brothers), a unique group of lay religious men dedicated exclusively to education. Founded in 17th-century France, De La Salle’s mission lives on in 80 countries, with 3,000 Brothers and over 100,000 Partners serving 1.1 million young people in 1,150 ministries.
In addition to the Founder, 13 De La Salle Christian Brothers have been canonized, 150 have been beatified, and eight have been declared venerable. Five are on the path of holiness with the process started or nearly concluded.
Blessed James is a witness to “Lasallian holiness” through the teaching and care he gave his students that ultimately leading to his martyrdom. De La Salle stated that “example makes a greater impression than words.” Blessed James’ life was a testament to that. May he inspire all who continue in De La Salle’s mission and all those who educate and serve the young and vulnerable.
