“Philly Factor,” a television program produced by the students, faculty and alumni of La Salle University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, aired a May 5 episode on the life, work and significance of Blessed James Miller, FSC, and on the Brother James Miller Guild.
Host Paul Perrello interviewed Brother Matthew Kotek, FSC, who is a member of the DeLaSalle High School Brothers community in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and serves on the Midwest District’s Vocations Team as well as on the Standing Committee of Young Brothers for the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools.
Brother Matthew explained Brother James’ witness as a “common, everyday man” who “took it upon himself and put himself in the place where he could get his hands dirty to really live out his call to serve others and serve his Lord.”
As the interview was recorded just days after the death of Pope Francis, Brother Matthew said, “As we mourn the loss of Pope Francis, I think Brother James Miller was such a great example of the type of man that Pope Francis calls us all to be – somebody who really identifies with the people on the margins, those on the peripheries. Brother James was definitely one that put himself on the peripheries to accompany those to give them a better life and a better future.”
The episode aired eight times on Philadelphia cable channels in early May.
